Fairey Gannet
The Gannet first flew in 1949 and made the first deck landing of a turboprop aircraft on HMS Illustrious. The first FFA Gannet squadron was 826 NAS on board HMS Eagle in the early warning and anti-submarine role, but by the mid 60s the Gannet switched to electronic counter measures and mail and light cargo supply. The Gannet was exported to many countries including the Royal Australian Navy, Indonesia and West Germany.

Fairey Flycatcher
Built at the Fairey's Hayes factory in 1923, the Flycatcher entered service with No.402 Flight of the Fleet Air Arm. Flown from British carriers such as HMS Courageous, the Flycatcher became a versatile fighter that developed tactics that would be used later in World War II. The Flycatcher was operational with the Home, Mediterranean, East Indies and China Fleets.

After the cancellation of the TSR2 project, the Royal Air Force had to find a replacement for the Canberra and Hunter types. Initially the F-111 was considered but the option of ordering the Phantom was taken with alteration to engines, airframes and avionics. The first RAF Phantom entered service in 1969 with the formation of 6 Squadron at Coningsby. The FGR2 took on the roles of Close air support, tactical strike, reconnaissance and air defence. The Phantom was withdrawn from service in 1992.

This design celebrates the famous US Navy Strike Fighter Squadron, the VFA 103, otherwise known as the 'Jolly Rogers'. VF103 was formed in 1953, equipped with the FG1D Corsair, then F4B Phantoms, F-14 Tomcats in the early 80s and now operates the FA-18F Super Hornet. The design is Flyingraphics's interpretation of the well known skull and crossbones insignia and the motif 'Fear the Bones'.

The F-111 entered service in 1967 as an interdictor, fighter-bomber and strategic bomber. The F-111 pioneered new technologies such as variable-sweep wings, afterburning turbo fan engines and terrain following radar for low-level tasks at high speed. Having served in Vietnam and the Gulf war the Aardvark retired in 1996. The Royal Australian Air Force continued to use the aircraft up until 2010.

V-Force is made up of the Vickers Valiant, Handley Page Victor and Avro Vulcan. These aircraft were chosen for the role of the UK's nuclear deterrent for their quick reaction capability and manouverability. The Vulcan was best known for its ability to get into the air rapidly and gain altitude at high speed. During the Cold War the RAF worked with NATO as part of a 'one-two' attack strategy. The V Bombers would destroy Warsaw Pact targets such as airbases and command centres ahead of the US SAC nuclear strikes. Most aircrews considered this ultimate sortie as a 'one-way' trip!

The Valkyrie was the prototype for the B-70 nuclear bomber capable of long-range sorties travelling at Mach 3 at 70,000ft. The programme for the B-70 was cancelled so the aircraft was given to research into high-speed long-duration flight with the programme finally ending in 1969. The last remaining Valkyrie is on display in the National Museum of the United States Air Force near Dayton, Ohio.
