'Fear the Bones'
This design celebrates the famous US Navy Strike Fighter Squadron, the VFA 103, otherwise known as the 'Jolly Rogers'. VF103 was formed in 1953, equipped with the FG1D Corsair, then F4B Phantoms, F-14 Tomcats in the early 80s and now operates the FA-18F Super Hornet. The design is Flyingraphics's interpretation of the well known skull and crossbones insignia and the motif 'Fear the Bones'.

Charles Richard Fairey and Ernest Oscar Tips formed Fairey Aviation in 1915 after leaving Short Brothers. In 1960 Fairey merged with Westland Aircraft. Many aircraft were manufactured including the Flycatcher, Swordfish, Gannet and Rotodyne. This design has a deliberate weathered and aged look.

The F-111 entered service in 1967 as an interdictor, fighter-bomber and strategic bomber. The F-111 pioneered new technologies such as variable-sweep wings, afterburning turbo fan engines and terrain following radar for low-level tasks at high speed. Having served in Vietnam and the Gulf war the Aardvark retired in 1996. The Royal Australian Air Force continued to use the aircraft up until 2010.

The La Fayette Escadrille N124 was formed in 1916 during the First World War. Part of the Aéronautique Militaire, the Squadron was made up mostly of American volunteer pilots, the name coming from the Marquis de Lafayette. V-Force is made up of the Vickers Valiant, Handley Page Victor and Avro Vulcan. These aircraft were chosen for the role of the UK's nuclear deterrent for their quick reaction capability and manouverability. The Vulcan was best known for its ability to get into the air rapidly and gain altitude at high speed. During the Cold War the RAF worked with NATO as part of a 'one-two' attack strategy. The V Bombers would destroy Warsaw Pact targets such as airbases and command centres ahead of the US SAC nuclear strikes. Most aircrews considered this ultimate sortie as a 'one-way' trip!

North American XB-70 Valkyrie
The Valkyrie was the prototype for the B-70 nuclear bomber capable of long-range sorties travelling at Mach 3 at 70,000ft. The programme for the B-70 was cancelled so the aircraft was given to research into high-speed long-duration flight with the programme finally ending in 1969. The last remaining Valkyrie is on display in the National Museum of the United States Air Force near Dayton, Ohio.

Lockheed U-2 'Dragon Lady'
World War II taught the US military the value of strategic aerial reconnaissance. The Air Force commissioned the Beacon Hill Report that suggested an aircraft was needed that would carry advanced optics and operate at an altitude of over 70,000ft. Clarence Kelly Johnson from Lockheed designed a jet powered glider, the CL282. At this time the design was recommended to the CIA, so in 1955 the aircraft was re-designated the U-2 and was flown during the Cuban crisis, Vietnam and throughout the Cold War. The U-2 remains in service with NASA and the USAF.
