It was also a component of Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force commanded by General Dwight D. Eisenhower. On June 6th 1944 over 12,000 allied aircraft flew 14,674 sorties. K5054 was the only Spitfire prototype made and was first flown by 'Mutt' Summers on 5th March 1936. He famously remarked "I don't want anything touched!" referring to how perfect the aircraft flew.
